Title Sha yi hte nu yi a lam (The origin of the buzz of cicadas) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
Now I am telling a short story about the origin of the buzz of cicadas, and how they communicated with each other through the jungle. A long time ago, there was a place called "Majoi Shingra" mountain, and a mother and her daughter lived there. They were very poor, and only they lived there. One day, the mother said, "We are so poor and have a difficult life. Let's move out from this place." Then they shifted. There was a stream, driven from the junction of the two streams called Nmai and Mali. So they thought that these two streams would meet at one place, and the mother said to her daughter, "Daughter, you go by the jungle way." "I will go through the bank of the river (Nmai Hka)." "Let's meet at the junction, my daughter." - then mother and daughter split up. After splitting and going their ways, they would never meet for years. The next day, they looked for each other through the water, but they could not find each other for many years until the mother became older and passed away. Although the daughter searched for her mother until she died, she could not meet her mother as the streams never met, so they parted away. After they died, the mother went along the river bank and called, "Shayi, Shayi!" Whereas the daughter called out her mother through the jungle, "Nuyi, Nuyi!" They died without meeting each other while they were trying to meet. So that the buzzing of cicadas is coming out as they are calling to find and show their missing each other.
