Title U jit n ji ai bainam jit grai ji ai lam (Why ducks don't pee and goats pee a lot) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
In the past, chickens and humans could understand each other. Chickens drank much water at that time. Then a goat came to the chicken and asked it, "What are you doing?" The chicken also replied, "I am drinking water." So the goat said, "I will drink water too. Can I?" But the chicken said, "No, don't drink. I will drink for you too. I will keep drinking water, and you keep peeing. Okay?" Then the goat said, "Alright!" The goat went back to its place. Since that day, chickens don't pee no matter how much water they drink, and goats keep peeing. The goat accepted what the chicken said, so it had to pee all the time. Chickens don't pee even though they drink much water. This is the end of the story.

Moi da u ni shingyin masha ni yawng naw ga naw hkrum ai shaloi she u gaw hka grai lu ai da. Dai she bainam hte hkrum yang dai u gaw hka lu hkrai lu nga she bainam sa wa she hpa baw re nga ngu yang she, hka lu ai le, ngai mung lu na le, hkum lu law, ngai lu ra ai, nang na matu ma ngai lu ya na ngai gaw lu hkrai lu na nang gaw ji hkrai ji yaw nga da dai u wa. Ji hkrai ji nga jang gaw e e mai sai ngu na she hkam la kau ai da. Hkam la kau na wa mat ai wa she ya dai ni du hkra bainam jit grai ji na aw u gaw hka lu hkrai lu na bainam gaw jit n ji ai da. Hka kade lu tim bainam jit n ji ai da yaw. Aw chye U gaw hka kade lu tim jit nji ai, bainam gaw ji hkrai ji ai. Dai hku byin mat ai da, dai moi na maumwi u a ga tsun ai majaw shi hkam la kau ai majaw bainam gaw jit grai ji ra ai da. U gaw hka grai lu tim jit n ji ra ai da, htum sai.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
