Title Dam dam da wa (People who see it are surprised, but people who hear it are even more surprised) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
It is said, "People who see it are surprised, but people who hear it are even more surprised". The story was in our land a long time ago. There was a woman who did not travel anywhere but just used to listen to those who travelled. The woman said to her sister-in-law that "Hey sister-in-law, the Nshawn plain is such a very wide plan". Her sister-in-law replied that "When did you see it?" The woman answered that "My eldest uncle and second elder uncle saw it". The woman was saying about that like she actually saw the Nshawn plain. "Such a very wide plain (Dam dam du wa)" means like she actually saw it. "Dam dam du wa" is in the Gauri language. It means extremely wide. "My eldest uncle and second elder uncle saw it" means that it was not actually seen by her but her uncles saw and told her. It is the end.

Mu ai wa mau, na ai wa grau ai da. Maumwi gaw moi anhte ga de e rai re nga gaw gara de mung n chye hkawm hkawm re hkawm chye ai ni wa jahta dan ai sha madat dat re da. Dai she num langai mi jan gaw shi kaning lat e she e ninglat e e nshawn pa dam dam ai wa ngu ai da, galoi wa sa mu n ta e ngu yang tsa bawk yen tsa ba mu ya de ngu da. Tsabawk yen tsa ba mu wa ya de, shi gaw mu ai zawn nga hkai ai le. Dam dam du wa ngu gaw grai dam ai le, shi sa mu ai zawn nga nre i, grai dam n hpa n hten gauri ga re nga. Dam dam du wa ngu gaw manu mana dam ai ngu ga re nga, dai she nang galoi wa sa mu ngu yang tsa bawk yen tsa ba mu wa ya de ai nga gaw shi katsa bawk yen katsa ba sa du hkawm na wa jahta dan ai le.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
