Title Chyahkyi kahtan ga mat ai lam (The deer struck by lightning) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
It happened in the past. One day, a deer was wandering around the jungle. When the deer was wondering, it saw a gooseberry and ate it. When it ate the gooseberry, it got an extremely bitter taste. The taste of gooseberry is sweet soon after you eat. Isn't it? But it tastes bitter in the beginning when you eat. Have you eaten? The deer ate the gooseberry and swore to itself that "Such a bad taste gooseberry! I will never eat again. If I eat again, let lightning strikes me". The deer returned home after it swore like that. On the way to return home, when the deer reached a creek, it drank water and it suddenly tasted very good. Even though the deer had already sworn, it went back to the gooseberry tree and ate more gooseberries because the taste was much better. At that time, the deer was struck by a bolt of lightning and its forehead was broken by the lightning. It is the end.

Moi rai re nga ai gaw ndai jahkyi gaw nam hkan hkawm ai nrai i. Nam hkan hkawm na dai mana si sha ai le. Mana si sa hta sha rai, re wa she lani mi na dai mana si sha hkrup ai she aga nga na sha yang gaw sha ngut jang gaw dwi ai nre i. Nnan sha yang gaw akup aka nga re nga, sha yu sai i nang, e dai mana si sha da ai atum hpe ndai ram ram nmu ai, mana si gaw galoi mung n sha sa, sha yang gaw mu a chye u ga nga. Mu achye u ga ngu na wa mat yang wa she hto hka shi langai mi kaw du yang hka wa lu yang mana maka mu mat ai da. Mana maka mu mat na she mi gaw dagam kau sai nre i, dai wa she shi gaw ndai ram ram mu ai wa ngu bai n htang sa hta sha ai da. Dai shaloi mu achye ai majaw shi na kahtan ga mat ai re ai da. Mu achye kahtan ga mat ngut sai.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
