Title Mali hka hte Nmai hka (The Mali river and the Nmai river) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
The Mali river and the Nmai river. Once upon a time, the Mali river and Nmai river had a relationship and lived together. They lived together and then, they travelled to the lowland. When they were travelling, one night, they both were sleeping. At that time, one friend said that "Hey friend, please wake me up if you wake up earlier than me. If I wake up earlier than you, I will also wake you up". The friend said "Yes" and they slept. But, while the Nmai river was still sleeping at night, the Mali river flowed silently. The Mali river kept flowing silently. When the Nmai river woke up and looked for his friend Mali river, the Mali river had already flowed ahead. So, the Nmai river said to himself that "Oh no, I have to run to reach my friend Mali river". Then, he rapidly and roughly flowed through the mountains, which was a shortcut way to be able to reach the Mali river. Since he flowed roughly to be able to reach the Mali river, until today, the Mali river flows gently but the Nmai river flows roughly with big waves over mountains and big stones because he chased the Mali river. Since then, it was like they separated.

Hkrun lam hkawm ai shaloi she tsun ai da, shan 2 rau lana mi rau yup nga ai da law, rau yup nga she i manang wa e hpawt de nang rawt wa yang ngai hpe jasu u yaw ngai dum yang nang hpe jasu na ngu tsun ai da. Dai shaloi she e e ngu shan 2 yup mat sai da, yup mat dai kaw she mali hka wa shana wa she nmai hka wa i naw yup taw yang she mali hka wa akatsi nga na she yawng mat wa ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
