Title Grai lagawn ai la a lam (Ladder to the moon) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story is about a lazy woman. Once in a village, there was a couple. The husband was intelligent and always said, "I want to go to the moon." He told his wife, "I will go to the moon." And he built a ladder that could reach the moon. He told his wife, "Water the place where this ladder is set." His wife watered that every morning. Then, it grew very well. He climbed up to the moon with that ladder. He almost reached the moon. One morning, the wife was lazy and poured the rice water onto the ladder instead of water. Then, the ladder was broken, and her husband fell from the sky. He was dead.

E grai lagawn ai la a lam. Moi shawng de da madu wa hte madu jan nga ai da. Madu wa gaw shi gaw shi na hku shi nga yang shi gaw hpaji grai rawng ai ga nga. "Shata mung de lung mayu ai" ngu ai da. Shata mung de lung na she madu jan hpe tsun ai da "Ngai shata mung de lung na" ngu tsun ai da. "Nang ngai hpe ngai ndai lakang galu" shi gaw lani hte lani lakang dai gaw i shachyaw she shachyaw shachyaw she shachyaw shata mung de du hkra ngu na she shachyaw ai da. Dai madu jan hpe tsun ai da "Ngai na ndai hpun kawa jun ai kaw nang jahpawt shagu hka sha jaw ya yaw" ngu tsun ai da. Madu jan mung jahpawt shagu hka sha jaw ya da jahpawt shagu hka sha jaw ya. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
