Title Mana la a lam (The fool man) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
The story I will tell is about a fool. Once upon a time, there was a man in a village. He was gullible. He believed whatever the others said. One day, there was a funeral in that village. The family was sorrowful and mournful. He went there and was singing the songs happily. People told him, "It's not the happy event. It's where you have to show your sorrow." He said, "Oh, is it?" Then, he went back home. After a few days, there was a happy event in the village. People were happy there. The fool went there with a sad face. He was crying out loud there. Then, people told him, "My friend, you can't cry in this kind of event. This is a happy event. You need to laugh and show happiness here." He said, "Oh, I should be happy in this kind of event." And then, he walked away to another place. He was a kind of person who couldn't stay at one place for a long time. He liked to go around. Then, he met a man who was hunting birds. The hunter was about to catch the bird. But there, the fool laughed out loud, 'hhhhh'. Then, the bird flew away because of his sound. The hunter told him, "My friend, you can't shout like that here. You have to stay in silence. Don't you see I am hunting the bird? Now, the bird flew away because of you. You should pick up the stone and help me catch the bird in this kind of situation." Then, the fool kept in mind, "Oh, I should stay in silence and throw the stone." And he walked to another place. He saw a mother and a daughter taking a shower and washing the clothes in a stream. The woman was washing the clothes, and the girl was sitting on a rock. At that time, the fool was creeping and looking at the girl. And he picked up a stone and threw it at the girl. The girl saw him behind the rock and shouted, "Mom, there is someone! Mom!" Her mother rushed to her and asked, "Where? Who?" Then, the fool hid behind it when he saw the girl's mother. The girl's mother walked away and continued washing the clothes. The girl was being aware this time. Then, the fool raised his head and tried to throw a stone at the girl again. The girl saw him and shouted, "Mom, there he is! Mom!" When the mother looked at where her daughter pointed, she saw no one. But her mother was suspicious, "Something is not right. Someone must be there." Then, she walked toward the big rock to find out who was behind the rock. Then, she saw the fool trying to throw the stone at her daughter. The woman said, "Oh, why are you trying to peek on us and throw stones at us?" He explained, "A man told me that I should be quiet and throw a stone in this kind of situation. So, I did it." The woman said, "You can't be like that in this kind of situation. If you want to help us, you should come to us and help us wash the clothes." Then, he said, "Oh, I should help washing the clothes." He went to another place. There, he saw two men fighting over the blanket. They were fighting over the blanket because they had only one blanket to use when they slept. Then, he said, "My friends, wait a minute! Let me do something first." They stopped and looked at him. At that time, the fool quickly grabbed that blanket and washed it. They got angry and shouted at him, "We have only one blanket! We are going to use it because we are so cold. But now, you wash it! Why?" He said, "Just now, a woman told me that I should help washing the clothes. So, I help you guys wash the blanket." They said, "Such a fool! You shouldn't help washing the clothes in this kind of situation. We were fighting over one blanket. Then, you should separate us and tell us not to fight." The fool said, "Oh, I should separate you and tell you not to fight." And he kept walking to another place. After walking a few minutes, he arrived at a field. He saw that two buffaloes were fighting against each other. He ran toward them and said, "You two shouldn't fight against each other." And he tried to separate the two buffaloes. Unfortunately, he was dragged and killed. He was careless and thoughtless, so he ended up like that.
