Title Jinghpaw nta hte Myen hpara bung ai lam (The Kachin house and the Burmese pagoda) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Our Kachin people's houses in the past are similar to Buddhist temples. In the past, Kachin people lived on the mountain and in cold places. So, we built our houses with flying gable roofs. And we hung a snake's tail at the top. The place was small for a mass population, so Kachin people had to find a new territory. We declared war against many races and got some areas of China. We ruled it for nearly 100 years. Some said that Korean are related to Kachin. Japanese approved that Korean and Kachin descended from the same ancestors. Some Kachin people won against Chinese and ruled for nearly 100 years. There were many chiefs too. Many chiefs from Kachin ruled China. I even noted down Kachin chiefs' dates of birth and when they attacked China. But I will just tell you in short. When Kachin chiefs died, we buried them at the top of the mountains. So there were many chiefs' graves on the mountains. Some Kachin chiefs lived with Chinese, Shan or Indian. All the tribes are mixed. Kachin people ruled everywhere. We became powerful. There are chiefs in each clan. Then, Manchu tribe rebelled against Kachin. They killed nine military officers from Kachin. They buried them only in one grave. When Zinwa Zau Hka, a law student at Pekin University, was attending university there, the officers decided to open that grave. When they opened it, there were really nine coffins there. He learned that Chinese really killed nine Kachin military officers. So, he decided to leave China and joined Kachin Independence Army. Kachin people were disunited. So, Kachin people were separated. Some Kachin were killed during the war. Some Kachin became other tribes. But Burmese are afraid of Kachin. So, they worship Kachin people's houses. Many years later, they copied the design of Kachin people's houses and built temples. At first, Burmese worshipped Kachin houses since they were scared of Kachin, but the houses became temples for them later. Temples were designed with the inspiration of Kachin houses.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
