Here is a story about a hornbill bird in ancient times. The hornbill bird could talk sweetly, so all the small or big birds wanted to get close to him. There were many birds. There was another kind of bird. It had an ugly voice, and when he spoke, his tone was so creaked that everyone avoided him. The hornbill bird's tone was so beautiful. Thus, everyone wanted to stick with him. Therefore, we Kachin people also need to do something like this bird story. The sweet words made all the relatives and friends close to us. The hornbill bird could speak prettily. All the tall, short, significant, and small birds stuck to him. Here is the end of the story.

E moi ndai sinwa u a lam le i sinwa u ngu sinwa u ngu ai gaw shi ga pyaw ai re nga yawng ''u'' kaji kaba yawng hpu ai da, grai law ai da. Re yang she ndai ''u'' (a she le ya ning nga wa nga ai law) ''u'' dai gaw shi wa ga n pyaw re nga gaw shi gaw hprwi rai jang gaw shi gaw yawng shi ga n pyaw ai re nga she yawng bram rap, bram rap re nga, dai sinwa u gaw shi ga pyaw ai re nga e, yawng kaji kaba hpu ai da. Re yang anhte jinghpaw ni mung e, ''u'' a maumwi zawn ga pyaw ga mu ai kaw gaw yawng makyin jinghku ni mung e yawng hpu ai, sinwa u la lam gaw shi ga pyaw ai re nga e, yawng U ningri ning joi yawng galu kaba ai ni yawng hpu ai nga, dwi a maumwi gaw dai hteng sha re ai law.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
