Title Shagrit shanem ai bainam a lam (The humble goat) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
I am telling a story about a humble goat. A long time ago, two goats grew up as young goats and became proud of themselves. They were proud as "I am more handsome. My horns are perfect." They both thought they were excellent by themselves. One day, they looked for their food. One goat came from the East of the village, and another came from the West, and then they met in the middle of a small bridge. When they met, one goat said he reached there first, and another said the same. They knocked each other by their horns and almost fell from the bridge into the water. Therefore, one goat said, "It is okay, my friend. You step forward, and I will bend down like this. You jump over me." He showed his humbleness and bent his body down. So the goat, which came from the West, jumped over the goat from the East. After that, they both could reach their destination well. In the world, we need to humble ourselves where it is necessary. We should not be proud but humble.

Ngai grau tsawm ai, ngai na nrung grau ram ai ngu, ndai wa mung grai she grau ram ai ngu ai da, retim shan 2 gaw lani mi gaw shat lu sha tam sha sa wa yang gaw da, mare langai mi gaw hto ra maga hku re na sinpraw hku sa wa, mare langai mi gaw sinna hku sa wa rai mahkrai kachyi sha law ai kaang kaw shan 2 gaw hkrum hkat ai da. Hkrum hkat yang gaw ngai shawng du ai, hto ra langai wa mung ngai shawng du ai ngu, shan 2 dai kaw daru hkat yang gaw 2 yen hka de hkrat wa na rai nga, dai majaw gaw da 1 wa gaw e hpa nra ai law aw, hkau e nang madaw shawng de shawng pru wa u ngai ningngu dagup ya na yaw, ngai na ntsa hku nang gaw gum tsat mat wa u ngu na mare langai gaw shagrit shanem re na dagup ya ai majaw, sinna de na wa ai bainam gaw sinpraw de na du wa ai bainam hpe shingkawt gum tsawt kau na hto shan 2 gaw ra ai shara de atsawm sha bai du mat wa ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
