Description	Translation (Rita Seng Mai) Now, I am going to talk about a true event that took place in a place called Wajung Yup. A man became a cambion in that place. He was half human and half devil. At night, he caught humans and ate them. The travellers had to take a rest and sleep there because the journey was too long to continue. They put their belongings beside them and slept there, but the cambion came at night and ate the travellers. He also took those valuable things. One night, two traders who were selling ploughshares happened to sleep there. They built a fire between them to prevent any harm. They were lying down there. One put his head just below the other's feet, and they were sleeping while being alert. They built a fire and were just lying down beside it. At that time, the cambion tried to attack them. He was looking at them. He quickly attacked the two travellers. However, they had already made a plan. They took turns fighting against the devil. When one man felt tired, he gave his friend a signal with a cough. Then the other fought against the devil. They were constantly fighting against the cambion by taking turns. Then it became morning. The devil said, "Let's stop. Let me be free! I won't do anything to you. I will give you everything I have. Please release me." The two men ordered him to show where the jewels were. The cambion was exhausted and couldn't move after showing the place. Then the men killed him. After that, they searched for jewels. There were heaps of skulls and bones everywhere. Also, there were gold, coins, and other jewels. They couldn't even carry it all because there was a lot. They took as many jewels as they could and went back home. Since then, travellers don't have to worry about the devil and can travel freely. That place is clean and safe. The place is still there. Collection title	Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description	Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
