Title Chyeju n chye htang ai jaugawng (The hunter who did not repay his favors) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
I will tell you about an ungrateful hunter. Once upon a time, a hunter went hunting in the deep forest. He was looking for his prey everywhere. There was a big pit in the forest. The hunter was only looking above the sky in order to find the birds. He was not aware of the pit on the ground. Therefore, he fell into it. He was just thinking, "How do I get out of this deep pit?" There were a group of monkeys near the pit. One of the male monkeys was swinging here and there from branch to branch. The monkey saw him. It thought, "A man is in the pit. If I don't save him, he will be in trouble. I should save him." Then it dropped a rope for the man to be able to climb up. The man used the rope and climbed out of the pit. But the hunter was an ungrateful person. He was thinking, "As I fell into the pit, I couldn't catch any prey. Maybe I should catch this monkey at least. If not, I won't have anything to eat." He didn't care, even if the monkey was his lifesaver, so he stabbed it with a knife. At that time, the monkey thought, "How could he try to kill me? I even saved his life!" And it kept thinking, "If I don't show him the way to get out of this forest, he will be trapped." It endured the pain and showed the way while bleeding a lot. The hunter kept following the monkey. He kept following it. When they were on the right path to get out of the forest, the monkey died since it was bleeding too much. However, the hunter thought, "The monkey is dead now, and I can see my way back to home too." He carried the dead monkey and went back home. The hunter was a mean person. Even an animal like a monkey has sympathy and humanity. That was why the monkey saved the hunter. On the other hand, the hunter didn't have that kind of mindset. He even killed his lifesaver and decided to eat it. Humans don't know to be grateful to the person who saves us from sin. We just live by doing everything we want without being thankful. I just would like to say that we should be thankful to the person who helps us and saves us.
