Description Translation (Seng Pan)
The story is about a child who was carried away by a giant snake. A long time ago, there lived a mother and her child. The child was still so young. He was about four years old. He always followed after his mother. One day, his mother had gone out all of a sudden. Since the child didn't know where his mother went, he looked for her and arrived at a place where the snakes had fun. He couldn't find his mother, so he sat down under a big tree and took a rest. At that time, a giant snake mumbled, "Kid. Sleep! Sleep!" from the tree. Soon, the child fell asleep. And the snake carried away the sleeping child to the place of the snakes where it had a lot of gold and jewelry. As the child was asleep, he didn't know how he got there. When they arrived at that place, the giant snake transformed itself into the child's mother. And the child assumed that the woman was his birth mother. The child lived at the snake's place for many years. However, he didn't remember anything. One day, he saw the giant snake when it hadn't transformed into the form of the mother yet. He was so shocked and shouted. The snake also noticed that the child had already seen his true form. So, it decided to send him back. Before it, the snake went to the child's place first. It found out the child's mother had passed away and the village was not like before. The snake realized that the child shouldn't be sent carelessly. Therefore, the snake let the child fall asleep like it did before. It mumbled, "Kid. Sleep! Sleep!" and rubbed the child. When he fell asleep, the snake carried him to his village and left a lot of gold and jewelry for him. So, the child could live a wealthy life for the rest of his life.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
