Title Nlung kaw na num kasha pru wa ai lam (The girl born from a stone) with English translation
Description Translation (Seng Pan)
The story is about a girl who came out of a stone. Once upon a time, a man cultivated paddy for a living. He always went to the paddy field and did weeding. The man usually caught the fish in his paddy field. He trapped the fish by using a triangle basket. One morning, when he went and checked the basket, he saw a white stone inside it. But he just left the white stone in the field. He took back the fish and prepared the fish curry. The next day, he set a fish trap and did the weeding in the field. The following morning, he found the white stone inside his basket again. He remembered that he had taken it out and thrown it to the field. Once more, the man removed the white stone and brought back only the fish. He cooked the fish as usual and made a trap for the following day. Although the man definitely threw the white stone, it still appeared inside his basket. The man was so surprised and said, "Stone, I threw you out yesterday. How could you come to my basket again? Did you walk into it?" So, he placed the white stone on the land this time. He just took out the fish and went back home. However, he didn't make a trap for the next day. After three or four days, he planned to catch the fish. On that day, he finished all the work to do in the field, including keeping the cows in the barn first. After that, he placed his basket in the gutter. When he came and took the fish the next morning, he found the white stone he placed on the land the previous day. This time, he got so angry and yelled, "I threw you many times not to come into my basket. It is annoying." He threw it to the forest. As usual, he took back the fish and cooked. The next morning, he saw the white stone inside the basket again. But this time he took it back and kept it in his house. After that, the men returned to the field and ploughed the field. In the evening, when he arrived at his house, he saw the food was already prepared. After seeing the prepared food for three days, he was shocked. Every day when he got back home, he saw that his clothes were washed, the food was ready, and his bed was made up. He wondered who helped him. It constantly happened for a week. One day, he completed all the works in the field that needed to be done and walked back home. When he arrived home, he found the rice was still so warm. The next day, he mumbled that he left home, but he quietly hid downstairs. At that time, a beautiful girl came out from the white stone he brought from the field. The man was so shocked and asked her many questions. The girl answered, "I was cursed to be a stone. I cannot marry a man I don't like. That's why I just stay single till today. I can free from the curse and come out of the stone as a girl only when I meet the man I love. Today, I can be a human again since I love you." Later, the man and the girl got married and lived happily ever after.
