Title Gaugawng wa hte lep a lam (The hunter who ran away from Hpu Lum Htu) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
Long ago, there was a hunter. He went into a forest to hunt. He worked as a hunter for a living. He went into a deep and far forest when he went hunting. Sometimes it could be a month when he hunted. When he got meat for a little, he dried it over the fire. He let three or four big meats dry in the forest when he got them. If he got one or two fleshes, he dried them and put them in the woods. However, if he got three, four, or five big meats while he hunted, he brought them back home after they dried. If he did not get any meat, he did not go home. One time, he hunted for more than a month. As he lasted for more than a month, he had no weapons left. Therefore, he planned to return home but lost his way home. He could not find the way to go home. He did not know where he was. He hunted in a deep forest, so he did not see the way as he was lost. He also could not shoot animals and lost his way back home. The dried meat that he made was finished, and he was amazed. "How do I go back now as I lost my way? How do I shoot for my meat as all my arrows are gone? What am I supposed to do?" He was afraid as it was getting dark. He prepared to sleep on a tree fork and made a platform on the tree fork. He was tired of walking and making the platform the whole day, so he fell asleep. When he awoke, he found a tree beside him was shaking. He thought it was because of the wind. When he checked the wind, it was not windy. So he looked carefully and saw a human shape beside him. It was not a human standing on the flank side, so he was so scared. When he looked at it, the whole body was covered with hair and looked like a human. He also found its breasts on the chest were so long and hanging recklessly. The hunter was shocked and amazed when he found the human-like creature smiling at him. The creature smiled with her flattened mouth so the hunter remembered the older people from long ago told him that there was a human-like creature called 'Hpaulum Htu' like this deep forest. He was so shocked and goosebumped, then he asked, "Who are you?" That human-like creature Hpaulum Htu smiled at him more as if she could understand him. The more she smiled, the scarier he felt. The smiling sound was 'kek kek,' and she did not speak any words, so the hunter was so scared. As the hunter was so frightened, he tried to run away, but Hpaulum Htu was so strong. She grabbed the hunter's hand with her strong hand and squeezed it so the hunter could not escape. Hpaulum Htu held the hunter tightly with her hands, and he could not run away, so he thought scarily that he would die in her hands. She held him for a long time, so he closed his eyes. After so long, he opened his eyes and found Hpaulum Htu still smiling at him. She rubbed her thigh, so he thought she felt itchy, as they did not have the same language. He found her smiling and caressing her thigh; thus, he thought she felt itchy and wanted him to scratch her. Later, he understood that Hpaulum Htu wanted him to stay with her. The hunter did not know what to do as Hpaulum Htu squeezed him tightly, and he had to live together with her. The hunter stayed together with Hpaulum Htu for three to four years. He felt like he was dreaming as his conscience was not clear. He thought he could not remain with Hapulum Htu for many years, so he tried to run away. However, Hpaulum Htu held him like a tong so he could not escape from her. Whenever he planned to flee, Hpaulum Htu clipped him firmly so he did not dare to make off. Hpaulum Htu searched for food in the village and the forest, but the hunter did nothing. Hpaulum Htu took care of him. They lived together for three to four years. Hpaulum Htu let him sit on her lap and embraced him to get warm with her hair during the winter. The hunter had to stay home every day, and Hpaulum Htu looked for food for him. They stayed like that, and they had two children. The children were not the same as humans, and they were like Hpaulum Htu. They could not speak human language and could not learn even if their father taught them. They could answer when their father talked to them. They understood their father, but the hunter could not speak their language. The hunter's hair was also getting longer day by day. It had been five years since he tried to run away. Whenever he wanted to escape, he thought about Hpaulum Htu's squeezing so he could not run away as he was scared of her. It was five to six years, so Hpaulum Htu believed him that he would never run away from her. One day, Hpaulum Htu did not come back home. The hunter thought, "Now, Hpaulum Htu was not here, and she did not come home. She trusted me that I would not flee. Therefore, I will run away today." Then the hunter tried to escape, but Hpaulum Htu arrived home. The hunter brought Hpaulum Htu to a rocky place beside the water and said with his body gestures that he wanted to eat fish. But Hpaulum Htu did not dare to go into the water as she did not want to. The hunter said, "I want to eat fish. Go and get them." Hpaulum Htu told him to go into the water by himself, so he went into the water and swam like a fish. Hpaulum Htu was afraid of water, so she did not enter the water. So the hunter swam across the other side of the bank and ran away. Hpaulum Htu turned upside down from this side of the river bank as the hunter escaped to the other side. Furious, she jumped and jumped until she forged the two children she got with the hunter. Hpaulum Htu left on the shore angrily. The hunter got away to the other side of the shore, and he never hunted as he was so afraid of that day onwards. The hunter thought of the years he lived with Hpaulum Htu and felt scared. Therefore, he threw away his hunter's life and worked other jobs for his living from that day onwards.
