Title Yu num wa ai lam (Cat's wedding)
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
Cats wanted to let their children to marry to the most intelligent and cleverest one in this world. They thought that the sun was the one which could give the light to everyone. So, they told the sun to marry to their daughter. The sun said, "When the clouds cover me, I am nothing. Clouds are the most powerful." Then, the cats went to the clouds and asked them. They replied, "The mountains could pass us. We aren't powerful enough." When the cats asked to the mountain, the mountain said, "No! Not me. The buffalos can fight and shake me by their horns." Then, the cats went to the buffalo and asked it to marry their daughter. But the buffalo said, "I can get easily killed with a rope. I am not the one." So, the cats said to the rope. The rope answered, "I can't do anything when the mouse cuts me. Just tell to the mouse." The mouse aslo said, "I can't be the one who can get married to your daughter. The cat usually kills me." Then, the cats thought, "Human could be the one who is the most powerful, strongest and best. So, we should let our daughter marry to human." And they went to human. At last, they stopped going to anyone else, just to human.

Shi gaw ndai jan gaw mungkan ga hpe nhtoi lu jaw ya ai nga nna shi gaw jan hpe jaw sha na ngu na jan hpe tsun ai da. Jan gaw ''Ngai hpe gaw da summwi ni she shing gang kau ai majaw ngai hta grau ai gaw summwi she nga ai ngu ai da. Summwi hpe san yu ai shaloi ''Ngai hpe gaw da, bum ni she shing gang kau ai'' nga bum wa mung ''Ngai mung n mai byin na re ngai hpe gaw wu-loi ni she daru gyi kau kau re ai da''. Wu-loi hpe bai ''Nang hpe i nye kasha jaw sha na'' nga nna wu-loi hpe bai san yu ai shaloi ''Ngai hpe gaw da, sumri ni rawn sha ngai hpe gyit sat kau kau re'' nga nna tsun ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
