Title Nyau sharaw hpe n sharin ya ai hpaji (The knowledge that cats do not tell tigers) with English translation
Description Translation (Rita Seng Mai)
You will see some cats at houses. They are teachers of tigers. Wild cats catch their prey in the forest. Before they poop, they remove some soil first. They poop in there. Cats are teachers of tigers. There is one skill that the cat didn't teach the tiger. It was something related to catching prey. When the tiger tried to pounce on the prey, its tail always touched the ground and makes a noise. When the prey heard that sound, it ran away quickly. So the tiger always missed its prey. Then the tiger thought, "There might be one skill that the cat didn't teach me. So I couldn't get any prey. I will kill him." The tiger thought to kill the cat. The cat was aware of it too. The cat hid its poop under the soil not to get its smell. So that the tiger couldn't stalk it. The cat moved some soil and pooped there. After that, it covered its poop with the soil again. I don't see the tiger doing that. But every cat covers their poop with the soil. And it smells it again and makes sure not to get the smell. Although the cat was the tiger's teacher, it didn't teach the tiger all its skills. So it faced trouble in the end. This is the end.

Re nna shi gaw ya hpa baw galaw i nga yang, shi gaw namdum sa ai shaloi shawng ga shawng htu kau ai. Shwang ga shawng htu kau na she dai kaw namdum sa ai. Dai hpa majaw i nga yang e, ndai lanyau gaw sharaw a shara re majaw, e sharaw hpe e shi n sharin da ai hpaji langai mi nga ai. Gyam lu gyam sha ai hte seng rai na, nsharin da ai langai mi nga ai. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
