Title Lahpyaw a lam (The whistle) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
The third story is that long long ago when we, Kachin people first started living, the children of the parents said that "Father and mother, if you two die, how we children will be going to continue to survive. We will miss you two and we won't see you again." Then, the parent told the children that "Dear my children, although you don't see us anymore if we die, when you remember your father and mother, pucker your lips and whistle. Then, we will come to you with the cold breeze." Therefore, we, Kachin and all other people, wherever, when we whistle, the cold breeze comes. It was because the parents said that "We, your parents will come to you as the wind." It was a message of history.

Nambat masum gaw hpabaw in ga yang she moi anhte Wunpawng myu sha ni nnan nga pra ai shaloi e ndai kasha ni wa "E nu yan wa e nan si ai shaloi gaw anhte nsha ni gaw gara hku rai na nga na, nan nu yan wa hpe grai marit ai mu lu na nrai sai" nga nna tsun ai da. Re yang gaw kanu yan kawa gaw hpabaw htet da ai i nga yang she "E nye kasha ni e yat nu yan wa hpe e nmu mai ai si wa ai shani tim nu yan wa hpe myit dum ai shaloi na a nten n-gup chyum nten pum lahpyaw hpyaw u. Dai shaloi an nnu yan nwa bungli katsi i nbung bung nna sa na ga ai" ngu ai da. Re majaw ya anhte Wunpawng myu sha ni gara kaw raitim shinggyim masha ni le i lahpyaw hpyaw dat ai hte rau nbung tsi tsi nga na sa ai. E dai gaw mi kanu yan kawa e i "Yat nu yan wa nbung tai nna sa na ga ai" ngu ai matsun maroi i maumwi labau re ai da.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
