Title Hka u a lam (A knifeman who learned how to use a knife from a waterfowl) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
Another story is a shorter one. In a river, the water birds were catching fish from the river and threw the fish onto the air and when the fish were dropped down, they opened their mouth and ate the fish. They did like that. There was a man and he was looking at the water birds. When the man was looking, the water birds caught the fish from the water and threw it in the air, and caught and ate again when it was dropped down. So, the man also said that "I also can do to throw a knife onto the air and when it is dropped down, I can stop the knife with my mouth. I have that skill. I have such skill." "Where did you learn the skill," the man was asked. "No one teaches me. I know myself," the man answered. The man was asked again that "No, impossible. You might learn from someone. Such skill to throw a knife onto the air and to stop the knife when it is dropped down - you must learn from someone." In fact, the man learned from the water birds as the water birds caught the fish and threw it onto the air and caught with the mouth again when it was dropped down. But, the man just kept saying that he had that skill. When people asked that "Who did you learn from?" The man just answered that "I learned from no one. I knew myself." So, the people asked the man that "Can you do it again and show us?" The man did not tell who he learned from. He just said that he knew himself. So, the man did again. When the man threw a knife onto the air and it was dropped down, he could not stop the knife with his mouth and the knife went through his throat and died. It meant that everybody knows anything when just there is a person who teaches. People should not forget those who taught them. This is the story about people should not deny where and who the person learned anything.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
