Title Brangtai hte taukawk (The rabbit and the turtle) with English translation
Description Translation (Gun Mai)
The story that I am going to tell is about a hare and a tortoise. Long long ago, I will tell you about the hares and the tortoises that were available a lot in our land. There were a lot of tortoises in our country. The hares lived in many bushes and also lived in the plain areas. They just lived in very safe places. A hare said to a tortoise that "My legs are very long but your legs are very short." When they were talking like that, a wolf came to them and they said to the wolf that "Can you please do a referee for us? We will make a running race. Please make a sign in a goal and wait for us at the goal." The hare was very arrogant because he thought that he was a very fast runner. "I am very good at running. You can't defeat me," the hares said. So, they started the running race. When the hare was quite ahead of the tortoise in the race, he thought that "The tortoise is very slow so I can easily win him," so he was sleeping on the way. The tortoise was continuously walking with his all effort and finally, he reached the goal first. The hare was sleeping and said to himself that "My legs are long so no problem," but he fell slept until the time got dark. So, he was shocked and woke up and continued to run but the tortoise had already reached the goal. Thus, the hare was very ashamed so he also did not dare to talk to the tortoise and just lived in the bush since then. Like this story, the arrogant person can be behind and the person who works hard can reach a higher place. It is all about the story. Thank you very much.

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
