Title Len la pa sha ai woi lup dingla si hkrum ai maumwi (Old monkey which imitated a man and killied itself) with English translation
Description Translation (by Maran Seng Pan)
This story is about an old monkey that killed itself because it imitated exactly the same as a man. The story warns us if we don't carefully consider what is good or bad to imitate, it can make us kill ourselves. Once, there was a tall Schima Wallichii tree which grew in a man's farm. An old monkey lived in that tree. Every early morning, the monkey always picked and ate the corns before the man arrived at farm. After eating, it climbed up the tree and stayed there the whole day. Even though the man shot it with crossbow and drove it out many times, it never left the farm. Therefore, the man, owner of the farm, was thinking of an idea to drive it out. One day, he left a very sharp double-edged knife on its way. He also remained a mirror. The next day, the monkey went back to the tree after having corns. On its way, it saw a knife and a mirror and took them. When the man arrived at the farm, he purposely held a mirror and a knife in each hand. Since the monkey saw he was looking at the mirror and combing his hair, it also did the same as the man. When he picked the lice, it imitated him again. After that, he took the knife and slit his throat with the knife's blunt edge. By looking at him, the old monkey also looked at the mirror and slit its throat. Since two edges of the knife it used were very sharp, he cut off his throat and was dead. Therefore, imitating others is very dangerous. If we copy exactly the same as other, it can lead us to death.

Moi mangai yin wa ai aten hta yi shingnawm mare la langai a yi shingnawm kaw masa hpun galu tu ai da. Dai masa hpun galu kaw gaw woi lup dingla langai mi nga ai da. Dai woi lup gaw jau jau masha ni rai nsa yang yi kaw na hkainu ni daw sha na hto hpun ndung kaw la sha sha rai na yawng hkai nu ni yawng daw sha sha re nga ai da. Kade shachyut tim n hprawng ai da kade ndan hte gap tim shi gaw maga mi na gap yang maga mi de makoi maga mi na gap yangdai hku makoi na nga ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
