Title Nyau hte hkan a lam (Why cats and dogs don't get along) with English translation
Description Translation (Seng Pan)
The story is about cat and wild cat. I will tell this story in two versions. The first one is why cat and wild cat cannot be together. Long ago, a cat and a wild cat lived together. One evening, the wild cat said, "Friend, we have meat for dinner. Go and fetch fire from the village! We need to cook the meat." So, the cat went to a widow's house to fetch the fire. There he saw the stick rice which was put out to dry to make rice wine. He ate the sticky rice. As he had a lot, he was so full and couldn't get up. At home, the wild cat had been waiting for him long time but he did not go back to him. That's why the wild cat railed at the cat that wherever I found you, I would kill and sit on you until you die. From that day on, their friendship was ended. Therefore, if the wild cat sees the cat nowadays, he kills him because he didn't fulfil his work to fetch fire. On the other hand, as the cat ate the sticky rice a lot, he didn't want to see it and hasn't had it anymore from that day on.

Langai gaw nyau hte hkan gaw rau nga ai gaw nmai ai hkan gaw dai majaw hkan gaw, nyau gaw rau nga nmai ai majaw myi gaw shan 2 rau nre tim rau nga na hku nga, reng she shangun sai nyau hpe e bai ngau e nang hto mare de wan tu mat nga ai an mung ya nang shan gaw lu sa. Ju sha ra ai shadu sha ra ai majaw nang wan sa hta su ngu nyau hpe sa shangun ai hku nga, sa shangun sai da. Sa reng she dai kaw wan hta ai ngu sa yang she gaida jan langai tsa pa shadu maw di she jahtai kaw shat nbaw garai da ai hku rai nga. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
