Title Nbung hte jan a lam (The wind and the sun) with English translation
Description Translation (Htoi San)
This story is about the Sun and the wind. A long time ago, the Sun and the wind competed with each other for their abilities. "Let's contest each other." One said, and the other agreed, "Alright, sure." Then they challenged one another. "How are we going to compete?" One asked, and the other replied, "Do you see that man over there?" "That man wears a thick jacket." "If one of us can take that thick jacket from him, that one will be the most powerful in the world." After that, they started their competition. So the wind started blowing heavily. Despite the wind blowing hard and heavy, the man did not take off his jacket. Moreover, he wore more clothes on him. So the wind lost the competition and said, "My friend Sun, I lost it. It is your turn now." The Sun shone brightly, and the man took off his clothes as it was so hot. "Now, do you see it? The man takes off his jacket because of my ability." The Sun won the race. This short story ends here.

Jan hte nbung maumwi re. Moi shawng de da ndai jan i ndai nbung gaw hpaji shingjawng ai hku rai nga. Hpaji shingjawng ai she "An lahkawng i hpaji shingjawng hkat ga" nga tsun ai. Rai yang she "E mai ai le" nga na shan hkawng dai kaw shada da i shingjawng ai da. Shingjawng na she "Gara hku shingjawng hkat na rai" nga tsun ai. "Wo mu ai nre i wo masha langai mi i ndai ya ndai masha gaw ntsa palawng grai htat ai hpun da ai i shi na ndai grai htat ai ntsa palawng hpe da lu raw kau ya lu yang i ndai gaw grau mungkan hta grau n-gun ja dik htum re" nga na shan lahkawng gaw shingjawng ai da. Dai shaloi nbung gaw da nbung bung grai bung nbung shawng bung bung kade bung tim ndai masha na ntsa palawng htat ai ntsa palawng gaw nraw mat ai hku rai nga. Nraw mat na she grau pyi kahtap hpun hpun dai hku rai na dai shaloi nbung gaw sum mat ai da. Sum mat na "E ngai gaw sum mat sai hkau jan e" nga. "Rai yang ngai na aten rai sai" nga na jan gaw wo ja ai da. Jan ja na she e hpang e gaw i masha gaw jan ja yang gaw nlu hkam na she e shi na palawng raw kau ai da. "Ya mu sai nre i ya ngai na majaw ngai na atsam a majaw wo masha gaw e palawng raw kau sai" nga na jan dang mat ai da. Maumwi kadun hehe. (mani let).

Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
