The story I am going to tell is about the snake. The title of the story is a male snake. Long long ago, there was a widow who lived in a village with her four daughters. The four daughters worked very hard and enjoyed their jobs. However, when their mom was sick, she really wanted to have the fruits, and they were not able to pick the fruits for their mom where the fruit tree was growing near the house. As the tree was so high, they could not pick the fruits so the mom said that "I am very sick and very unwell," "Thus, if someone can pick the fruit, I will give away any of my daughters to marry as I verily want to have the fruits." " If you want my first daughter and you can, you want my second daughter, and you can, you want my third daughter, and you can, and you want my fourth daughter, and you can..." Therefore, I was looking for my son in law who could pick the fruits for me, and he kept on shouting. She shouted, "Pick the fruits for me," at the time, a snake was heard on the news. Subsequently, the snake climbed up to the tree, and it used its tail to hit the fruits. As such all the fruits fell to the ground. Hence, they picked the fallen fruits and gave them to their mom. After that, the snake went to the living room, where Kachin (Jinghpaw) has the living room. The snake was coiled in the room and said that "I am the son in law of this house." Then, the widow and her daughters said. "Oh...there is no human come and pick my fruits for me to by my son in law, only this son in law snake does it," "As the snake son in law has picked the fruits." So, I should give away one of my daughters to marry him, and they discussed. "Hey... my daughters, you need to be very obedient, the first daughter, you should marry the snake as the snake picks many fruits for me (mom). I was very happy so I want you (the first daughter) to marry him." Oh!! "Mom... I'm scared of it, and I do not want to marry him," she refused. "Even if I die, I do not want to marry him," so what should we do? Then, the mom said, " Hi... the second daughter, then you should marry the son in law snake." The second daughter said, "Oh... Mom, I'm even afraid to sleep with it." How should I follow that kind of snake? She also said, "Even if I die, I do not want to get married to the snake, Mom." Even if you have not died, I would die first, and she rejected her mom's request." REPEATED! After that, the mom was disappointed and talked to her fourth daughter. The mom said, "Hey... my fourth daughter, please marry my son in law snake." The fourth daughter said, " Yes mom, I will follow him." I want to know how the snakes lived. And she said, "I will follow him. " As she was not as mature as her older sisters and still young. She went with the snake kingdom by holding at the snake's tail. The snake brought her. They crossed the mountains and rivers, then he brought her to the deep cave. Which is their place. All the materials such as the mat and bed were all made of gold. The place had a lot of gold. After that, the snake took care of the fourth daughter properly by living as a snake during the daytime. He was living as a human during the night. When they were living together, one day, the fourth daughter said, "Hey... I honestly want to meet my Mom." "Could you bring me back to meet my mom and the snake said, '' Yes, I will," said this small basket is a golden basket. He also said, "All these golden gloves and bracelets, you should wear them." After she wore them, he asked her to follow him. Then, he brought her back to her Mom. After that, the sisters are amazed as the snake changes into a human in the evening. During the day, he was a snake. At night, the snake changed into a human, and he was very handsome. So, the sisters were jealous of their younger sister. They said, "Oh... my youngest sister married this person." "We all are wrong," one of them said, " I also made a mistake too." Another person also said, " I was wrong, I must marry him," another person also said the same thing, and then they slept. However, the second and third daughters were not slept and discussed, Then, the next day, they said they wanted to go with their youngest sister to get leaves as she had done very well in the past. "If we get enough leaves to rap, we can hold a party here," they said. Then, they informed the snake and their mom, after they got permission, they brought her to the jungle. After that, they went and put the banana plant on the top. At the bottom, they put the "Lasan dawn" and "we do not know how to name," the narrator said. It was so deep, Which is a kind of burrow and can reach to the water, Then, they asked the snake's wife (the fourth sister) to go first, and they followed from behind; after that, the snake's wife fell to the burrow. She was begging for help, but the two sisters, "Oh, never mind, she is dead; we should marry the snake as the fourth sister is gone," they said. At the time, the husband was a snake during the day and human at night, As he heard that he had fallen to the burrow, he went back to his place, and the burrow was connected to his kingdom. In that way, he went and rescued his wife, Then, the fourth daughter never met again with her mom and her sisters. The snake took care of her happily as his wife for her whole life. The story ended here.

Raitim mung, ndai Kanu machyi nga ai shaloi e kanu gaw namsi grai si ai da shanhte e a nta makau kaw namsi grai si ai rai tim mung namsi n di ya lu ai da, dai ni ma ni namsi n lu di ai da. Dai grai tsaw ai majaw, n lu di ya ai shaloi gaw ndai kanu gaw tsun ai da ngai grai machyi ai grai n pyaw ai. Namsi grai sha mayu ai, dai majaw ndai namsi di ya ai hpe gaw, nye kasha hpe ngai jaw sha na. Nye kasha ma kaw ra yang ma kaw,ma lu ra yang ma lu, ma roi ra yang ma roi, ma htu ra yang ma htu jaw sha na... Dai majaw, ngai ye namsi di ya na gahkri ra ai ngu nna shi gaw dai hku chyu machyi let dai hku marawn nga ai da. Collection title Kachin folktales told in Jinghpaw
Description Recordings of Kachin folktales and related narratives in Jinghpaw. These materials were collected by Keita Kurabe, Gumtung Lu Awng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, Labang Tu La, Gumtung Htu Nan, and Lashi Seng Nan as part of community-based collaborative fieldwork in northern Myanmar. A total of 2,491 stories with 2,481 ELAN files, 2,481 transcriptions, and 1,369 translations are currently available (March 25, 2024). Transcriptions were contributed by Gumtung Lu Awng, Pausa La Ring, Galang Lu Hkawng, Sumdu Ja Seng Roi, Hpauhkum Htu Bu, and Keita Kurabe. Stories were translated by Nbanpa Rita Seng Mai, Sumlut Gun Mai, Lazing Htoi San, Maran Seng Pan, Dumdaw Mike Tu Awng, Nhkum Htoi Awng, and Keita Kurabe.
