Description Side A: (31-07-74): Aunao recalling historical pieces and details behind story of Gwaasi man who went to Qld, elder brother left behind took this man’s wife, so he refused to return to Gwaasi to prevent killing his brother. (11-07-74) Reverts to original tape. Linganafelo recalling joking incidents with girls on bus, around town, note that Linganafelo is a bit of a traditionalist and mediates his flirting through others to avoid trouble.

Side B: (13-07-74) Aunao on history of relations between Takiniano and Gwaasi, fills in period of trouble, particularly detailing the fate of one widow who was cursed by her husband not to remarry after his death (partial transcript in FL11:108-110). (13-07-74) Reverts back to original tape, Linganafelo dictating kana. (FL11:88-111 partial transcript)

Collection title North Malaita Field Notes and Recordings
Description From 1971 to 1985, Ian Frazer conducted fieldwork in North Malaita, Solomon Islands, mainly To'abaita but with neighouring groups as well (Lau, Baelelea, Pijin). During that time he built up a large collection of tapes, photos, field notes and other material. There are over 200 cassettes and over 40 reels of mixed content - music (traditional and contemporary), traditional stories, history, life histories, traditional and present day customs/culture, ngali nut production, political history, labour history, and much else.This collection was located as a result of PARADISEC's 'Lost and Found' project and digitisation was funded by an ELDP Legacy Materials Grant and the ARC Centre of Excellence for the Dynamics of Language.
